8 Day Amazon to Machu Picchu Tour

  • Day 1 - Arrival in Lima, Peru

Upon arrival to Lima, you will be greeted and driven to your selected hotel. If staying at the Lima airport Costa del Sol Ramada, you will only need to walk out the airport exit and across the street to your evening accommodations.

  • Day 2 - Lima to Puerto Maldonado

From Lima you will depart for Puerto Maldonado, the Amazon Rainforest. At the airport you will be picked up and taken via covered canoe to your Inkaterra jungle lodge (Reserva Amazonica for the luxury option or Hacienda Conception for the superior option) to begin your Amazon luxury tour. En route keep your eyes open for the abundant wildlife living along the banks. Upon arrival you will have time to settle in before embarking on a night excursion!

  • Day 3 - Oxbow Lake and Canopy Walkway

Your first morning in the Amazon, you will navigate the shores of Sandoval, an oxbow lake, looking for black caimans, giant river otters, and innumerable species of birds and monkeys. In the afternoon, you will ascend up into the canopy via an observation tower, from which you will be able to experience the life of the macaws, parrots, and other jungle birds.

  • Day 4 - Puerto Maldonado to Cuzco

Traveling from the jungle to Cuzco you will have gone from sea level to 11,500 feet and arrived at the second part of your Amazon and Machu Picchu tour. The first day you will be free to relax and acclimatize to the altitude. If you're feeling up to it, the city center is pedestrian-friendly and makes for a great stroll. Depending on preference and price level we're happy to recommend the city's best options for dining and shopping.

  • Day 5 - Private Half Day Cuzco City Tour

During your tour of Cuzco, the capital of the Incan Empire, you'll visit Sacsayhuaman, an immense Incan complex with impressive stonework; Koricancha, one of the most important Incan temples (the walls were once actually coated in gold!); and Cuzco's Cathedral where you'll learn about the Cuzco School of Art.

  • Day 6 - Private Sacred Valley Tour

Your Sacred Valley tour will include visits to the ancient circular agricultural terraces of Moray, the salt mines at Maras, and the ruins and village of Ollantaytambo. Departing from Ollantaytambo, enjoy a scenic train ride through the Sacred Valley to the town of Machu Picchu where you will stay in your hotel at Aguas Calientes.

  • Day 7 - Private Machu Picchu Tour

Uncover the secrets of Machu Picchu during a guided tour of this Incan citadel. You'll visit the most important parts of the ruins to learn how and why they were constructed. After the tour, you'll have time to further explore the ruins or sit back and enjoy the magic of Machu Picchu. You can also hike to the top of Huayna Picchu for a bird's eye view of the ruins. The steep path takes about an hour and a half to ascend. Departing from Machu Picchu town, enjoy a train ride to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival at the train station you will be met and transferred to your Cuzco hotel.

  • Day 8 - International Departure

You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the Cuzco airport for your flight to Lima. (Optional recommended excursion) - Depending on the time of your international flight out a private tour of Lima's key sites can be arranged. You will visit the Larco Archaeological Museum, the San Francisco Monastery and its catacombs, Lima's historic colonial squares, and the picturesque waterfront district Miraflores.

Climbing Huayna Picchu (the mountain in THAT photo)

This short, sharp ascent on narrow paths and stairs is both hair-raising and exhausting. But this is all forgotten when you stand at the top and look down on the wonder that is Machu Picchu. What is Huayna Picchu? Day visitors to Machu Picchu can choose between a regular entry ticket or a ticket that includes hiking to either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain.
