Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Lima, Peru

Welcome to Peru! After gathering your luggage, simply exit the airport and walk across the street to your Lima hotel, Costa del Sol.

Day 2 - Lima to Cuzco

In the morning you will just need to walk back across the street to check in for your flight to Cuzco, the capital city of the former Inca Empire. Upon arrival in Cuzco, you’ll be met at the airport by your guide and driver and escorted to your Cuzco hotel. Since you’re going from sea level to 11,500 feet, you will want to spend today slowly adjusting to your new beautiful but literally breath-taking surroundings. Cuzco is one of the most charming towns in all of South America, and extremely pedestrian and visitor friendly.

Day 3 – Begin Lares Lodge to Lodge Trek

In the morning you’ll travel to the Urubamba Valley, reaching the AyarCancha community where you’ll set off on a 2hr trek up to Callwaccasa Pass, offering incredible views of the Vilcanota and Vilcamabma mountain ranges. You’ll then head downhill to the community of Viacha, where you’ll enjoy a gourmet lunch. Following lunch, you’ll join a restored Inca trail that leads to the Pisac Ruins, with views of the impressive agricultural terraces of the valley in route. From the ruins you’ll continue onto the picturesque village of Pisac, where you’ll be transferred by vehicle to your lodge for the evening.

Day 4 – Trek Cuncani to Huacawasi

You’ll depart Lamay early morning via a scenic drive to the village of Cuncani, where you’ll begin your day’s hike. On the 4-5hr trek, you’ll pass a variety of lakes and herds of grazing alpacas up through the Cruzccasa Pass, where you’ll enjoy an impressive view of Veronica Peak. You’ll then descend another hour where you’ll enjoy lunch. Your trek ends at the Huacawasi Lodge, from where you’ll have the opportunity to visit the village of Huacawasi; a place where the men still wear traditional colorful ponchos and women’s attire includes wide handmade skirts and decorated hats.

Day 5 – Trek Huacawasi to Patacancha

Today’s hike starts direct from your lodge and through the Huacawasi village where you’ll be immersed in the community. You’ll then take a trail uphill for about 2.5hrs to the top of the Ipsaycocha Pass where you’ll be offered stunning views of the surrounding mountains, often meeting the locals herding their goods and animals in route. You’ll then descend for about 40mins to the Lake Ipsaycochas where you might have the opportunity to see condors circling effortlessly in the sky while enjoying lunch. You’ll continue your descent for about 2.5hr to the village of Patacancha, where high quality weavings are also produced. Transfer by vehicle will take the group to Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley, where you’ll spend the evening at your lodge.

Day 6 – Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu Town

After a leisurely breakfast, you’ll walk through the village of Ollantaytambo which boasts an impressive archaeological site and well-preserved Inca town structure, the Emperor Pachacutec. In the late morning, you’ll board your train to Machu Picchu Town (enjoying lunch on board). You’ll have the rest of the afternoon free to explore your lodge’s magnificent gardens at leisure

Day 7 – Machu Picchu Tour to Cuzco

Uncover the secrets of Machu Picchu during a guided tour of this Incan citadel. You’ll visit the most important parts of the ruins to learn how and why they were constructed. After the tour, you’ll have time to further explore the ruins or sit back and enjoy the magic of Machu Picchu. Departing from Machu Picchu Pueblo, enjoy a scenic train ride to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival at the train station you will be met and transferred to your Cuzco hotel.

Day 8 – Cuzco to Lima

You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the Cuzco airport for your flight to Lima. (Optional recommended excursion) - Depending on the time of your international flight out a private tour of Lima's key sites can be arranged. You will visit the Larco Archaeological Museum, the San Francisco Monastery and its catacombs, Lima's historic colonial squares, and the picturesque waterfront district Miraflores.
