Summer (December-February)

Summer’s is a great time to visit if you’re looking for warm weather and plenty of sunshine. Some of the most popular destinations during this time include the Atacama Desert, the Lake District, Easter Island and Patagonia. The average temperature during summer in Chile is between 70°F and 85°F but temperatures can reach as high as 100°F in some areas.

Prices can be quite high during the peak season, so it's a good idea to book your accommodations and activities in advance. Summer is also the busiest travel season in Chile, especially in December and January when many Chileans explore their own country.

Fall (March-May)

Fall is all about milder weather and fewer crowds. The foliage starts to change color during this time, creating a stunning backdrop for your travels. Some of the most popular destinations during the fall include Santiago, the wine regions, and the Lake District (the northern extremity of Patagonia). The average temperature during fall in Chile is between 50°F and 70°F but temperatures can drop as low as 35°F in Patagonia.

Be aware that the weather can be quite unpredictable during this time, with some areas experiencing heavy rain and even snow. Be sure to pack accordingly and check the weather forecast before you go.

Winter (June-August)

Winter is the ideal time for skiing and snowboarding. The ski resorts in the Andes Mountains are some of the best in South America, with plenty of runs for all skill levels. Winter’s also a good time to visit the Atacama Desert – although it does get rather chilly, the clear skies make for excellent stargazing. The average temperature during winter in Chile is between 30°F and 50°F, but temperatures can hit 0°F (-18°C) in some spots.

Keep in mind that some roads and hiking trails may be closed due to snow and ice – especially in Patagonia.

Spring (September-November)

Just like Fall, Spring is a great time to visit if you're looking for mild weather and fewer crowds. The flowers start to bloom during this time, creating a colorful landscape for your travels. Some of the most popular destinations during the spring include Valparaiso, the wine regions, Easter Island and Patagonia. Average temperatures hover between 50°F and 70°F. Just like the Fall, the weather in Spring can change on a dime so come prepared for four seasons in one day.
