Machu Picchu is the best landmark in the world, according to Trip Advisor’s inaugural Travelers’ Choice Attractions awards. Winners were determined based on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews of attractions, featured on TripAdvisor, in each of the categories, according to a press release. The awards honor 1,263 of the world's top landmarks, parks, museums, and amusement parks both worldwide and regionally.
Machu Picchu was followed by Cambodia’s Angkor Wat at #2 and India’s Taj Mahal at #3 for best landmark to visit in the entire world.
Other South American attractions to make the top 25 list included Christ the Redeemer in Brazil (#20) and Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Chile (#22).
